Lost In Kathmandu…But Not Really

WiFi was turned off when I got back last night so I wasn’t able to post. I don’t think I’ll have any Internet when I go to the monastery, but that won’t be a bad thing. Yesterday I learned more about the language and customs of Nepal. I learned that the locals only taks showers once a week, some only take then once a month! After we spent half the day at the program house learning various phrases in Nepali and other information, me, a guy from England, and a girl from Holland went out at 2:30pm to explore the city and grab dinner. After the 45 minute bus ride to our destination (it should only take 10 minutes but they went the long way) we got off the bus and just wandered the streets of Kathmandu not having a clue where we were. We came across a little carnival on our adventure and rode a very noisy, and pretty fast ferris wheel for 50 rupees (50 cents). After we got off the ferris wheel we were still lost but enjoyed being lost, as it helped us see more of the city which we would’ve otherwised missed. We came across a line…well more like a jumble…of hundreds of mopeds all waiting for fuel. Fuel here is scarce since India has been blocking trade. At around 6pm it started getting dark so we asked a man for directions, but it turns out he was very drunk so he just followed us around a bit, not helping us at all. After we got rid of the drunk guy we finally were able to find some helpful locals and they pointed us in the right direction. We finally got dinner at a restaurant at around 7:30pm and then took a taxi home after that to make it home just in time for the 9:30 curfew. Although it took us several hours to make a trip that should have taken only 2 hours, it was a lot of fun.
